Horizons
Berlin, 2016
Small format paintings made with vintage urushi threads from Japanese kimonos. This series is made by winding the Japanese thread by hand on a wooden frame. The result is a stratum of horizons, whose chromatic composition leads us to the memory of a landscape: "Dryland", "Silver Sea", "Cherry Trees in Bloom", "Sunset" and "Aurora Borealis". In this process, the tense thread of the looms becomes the protagonist of the work. And the complexity of the landscapes, illustrated in kimonos, is simplified in chromatic minimalism. In addition, the work has a kinetic effect. The thread shines when the viewer moves into the exhibition space. The feeling is similar to what you see from the window of a train in motion.
